Congratulations are in order to Tom Ford and Colin Firth. Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man, won the Queer Golden Lion award at the 66th Venice Film Festival, while the film‘s star Colin Firth won the prestigious Best Actor award for his role. In addition to Firth, the film stars Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Nicholas Hoult.
Fade to Black, Tom Ford's production company, explained in a statement, “The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.”
“It's really a film about love and isolation that I think all of us feel, so it is very universal,” Ford explained of the ‘gayness’ of the movie at a news conference. “When I see someone who sees the film and says, 'It's a gay story,' I don't even know what they are thinking, it just seems to me a human story.”
